READERS FORUM

Dear BYRH,

I recently picked up a copy of your newsletter at the office of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders Assoc here in New York. I was quite impressed with the publication to the point that I ordered your book for my students.

Your book fills that long overdue educational gap that presently exists between owner and trainer. I have dedicated my entire adult life to educating people about the world of Thoroughbred Racing. As a professional teacher, I have strived to educate High School Students as well as Adults through our Vocational Horse Program here on Long Island, New York. This unique vocational program is actually part of the New York State Educational System.

The curriculum covers a great deal of material in the area of horse husbandry such as:Nutrition, Breeding, Equipment, Equitation, Transportation, Bandaging, Anatomy, Diseases etc...Many of our graduates have become Trainers, Grooms, Exercise Riders, Jockeys, Hot Walkers, Veternarians, Farriers, etc...

Needless to say, many of our graduates do find a career with Thoroughbreds on the Race Track. Our close proximity to Belmont Park and Aqueduct allows our students to explore the world of racing from the Backside. We are located in central Long Island at Knoll Farm of Brentwood, New York. Your text is now a part of our educational library and is required reading by all students. Keep up the good work.

If any of your readers wish to obtain information about our program they may do so by contacting:

I would like to also submit my name as an Avialable Trainer for Aqueduct & Belmont recetracks. I have no choice but to run off the farm as I have never been granted stall space except in the winter months. I find my horses do much better off the farm as the time for confinement is reduced enormously than that on the racetrack.

Ted

Thank you, Ted, for the opportunity to share information. It is exciting to think that ideas written on pages can stimulate real action! I look forward to visiting your school when I'm in New York! -- Editor

Dear BYRH

Please send information about your newsletter. I have been a TB trainer since 1981. I started with the trials and errors as the "Backyard Trainer" but since got caught up in the conventional racetrack web. More than a year ago I decided to go back to the ship-in methods- the racetrack frustration has added extra wear and tear to me, my husband, and our horses. As in anything, this major adjustment hasn't been easy. Your book has helped us in remembering what we used to do successfully plus given me some other ideas we are working on incorporating into our routines.

Thank you, Nancy Napolitano
